Larry Wall in his configuration to perl now offers two
variables bindir/installbindir etc. for all affected
directories.
I hate the perl configure script.
My idea is different.
Good :-)
So I propose a variable installdir_prefix or whatever,
which is prepended to the installation-directories.
How do you install other (GNU) software (that doesn't have this
variable)? Can't you just install the programs on the rw volumes?
Or do make bindir=/afs/... install?
I'm not anxious to change every single install target.
I sure hope AFS gives you a lot of benefit, since from what I've seen it
causes an awful lot of grief!
